Board Certified Behavior Analyst with over 30 years of experience designing learning environments for persons with autism and development disabilities.

We provide services through the application of behaviour analytic methods (ABA). In Europe, we act as OutReach consultants to those who provide ABA services directly to children.

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the science in which tactics derived from the principles of behaviour are applied to improve socially significant behaviour and experimentation is used to identify the variables responsible for the improvement in behaviour (Cooper, Heron and Heward, 2007). Its application to children diagnosed with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities is well researched and shows to lead to meaningful increases in the skill level of children.

ABA Therapy includes:

  • Teaching communication using vocal or sign. An example of this is teaching a child to request items.
  • Teaching play skills.
  • Teaching language skills such as listener responding.
  • Teaching social skills such as initiating conversation with other children.
  • Teaching independent living skills (self-help). Examples include toilet training, teeth brushing, dressing themselves.
  • Improving students’ performance skills such as reading, writing, math and spelling using Direct Instruction (DI).

Professionals most qualified to deliver ABA services are Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). They are individuals who have had years of training and experience in applying the principles of ABA. They have passed an international competency examination and have received board certification though the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB) in the United States. The Carbone Clinic has several of these qualified individuals who supervise the provision of service to all children.

The purpose of this service is to provide training and consultation to schools, agencies, and children within home-based programs. The objective of the OutReach Service is to provide assessment of the instructional needs of persons with autism and/or related disabilities leading to the development of effective instructional programs based upon the principles of applied behaviour analysis within schools, agencies, home/community environments. The services are provided through on-site consultation and training of teachers, parents, and other professionals. The OutReach staff are Board Certified Behaviour Analysts, with Masters’ degrees, and with extensive training within the Carbone Clinic with Dr. Carbone.
