Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the science used to understand behavior. Its tactics are derived from the principles of behavior and are systematically applied to improve socially significant behavior (Cooper, Heron and Heward, 2007).

Through experimentation, analysis and identifying variables responsible for its improvement, ABA employs a wide variety of teaching methods to teach new skills and reduce behaviours that challenge.

The effectiveness of ABA in supporting children with autism and other developmental disabilities is well-documented, leading to meaningful improvements in communication, social interactions, and independence. ABA achieves this through ongoing data collection and analysis, ensuring interventions are evidence-based and tailored to the individual’s needs.

Our Approach:

The Carbone Clinic provides direct 1:1 support, supervision and training and outreach consultation services to individuals, classrooms and schools. Our mission is to equip families, educators, and therapy teams with the knowledge and tools to create impactful, lasting change.

We achieve this by:

  • Comprehensive Assessments - Evaluating each learner’s current skills, barriers to learning, and instructional needs using assessment tools grounded in B.F. Skinner’s analysis of verbal behaviour.
  • Personalised Learning Goals - Developing individualised short- and long-term goals that support meaningful progress.
  • Evidence-Based Programmes - Designing tailored educational and behavioural programmes based on proven ABA strategies.
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making - Implementing structured data collection systems to track progress and refine interventions.
  • Expert-Led Training & Consultation - Providing hands-on support, workshops, and guidance to families, carers, and school staff, including teachers, key workers, TAs, and LSAs. By combining research-based strategies with compassionate, high-quality support, we empower children, families, and professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.
